As Home County fans have come to know, the festival is as much about the crafters and artisans as the music! On Saturday, July 21, the second night of the festival, some of our craft vendors got to take a bow and feel the applause during the Home County Craft Awards!
Due to the large selection of 119 approved craft booths, we arranged for Five Craft Award judges who divided the craft path into sections, took time to individually observe and select nominees and then met to discuss and finally reach consensus on the final awards. Thanks to Sara Parsons, Chris White, Lisa Mason, Bonnie Parkins and Bobbie McAdams for their volunteer contribution. Awards were announced prior to the evening main stage performance.
Best Product Award was won by Kristen "Rex" Holloway, whose Saugeen-based business ROAR by Rex features one-of-kind jewellery. Rex, a self-taught artist, explores recycled copper, gemstones, found objects and clay to conjure unique jewellery and whimsical creations. Each piece of her work has its own story to tell. Judges were especially interested in her use of recycled watch gears along with repurposed copper wire to create new, fresh products.
The Best Booth Design Award was won by London artists Alayna Hryclik and Jessica Woodward who together are shark bite ink X soft flirt. Both use the medium of printmaking to bring you exceptional, handcrafted, printed goods including t-shirts, totes, banners, prints, cards and accessories. Judges were impressed with the way that two fine artists inspirationally organized themselves using attractive, colourful techniques that meshed their talents cohesively.
First and Fresh Award was won by Londoner Cindy O’Beirn of The Cob Shop. Cindy takes used leather from many sources and crafts them into leather bags and accessories. This new artisan pays close attention to detail, caring that her repurposed products are professionally designed, made and presented.
On Sunday evening The People’s Choice Award was selected by you, our Home County fans. Ballots that were available all weekend were counted and the winner of the Peoples Choice is London's Darian Lajoie Art. Darian makes use of recycled materials, found objects, plants, objects of nature, textiles and paint to create mixed-media pieces that feature pocket watch gears, broken jewellery, felting. Darian mixes these into uniquely whimsical art works.
Each of these artisans have been invited back to Home County Music and Art Festival 2019 and provided with a free booth. If you missed them this year make sure to find them July 19- 21, 2019.
