It is with great sadness that we note the passing of Tom Siess. Tom was a significant force in the London music scene for many years.
In the early seventies, he was one of the founders of the Cuckoo’s Nest Folk Club and helped to run it for many years. In 1978 he joined the Board of our festival, then called the Home County Folk Festival, and the next year he became the Board Chair. He served in that position for the next ten years and had a profound impact on the growth and sustainability of the festival.
More recently, Tom was the Board Chair for the Aeolian Hall where he was involved with fundraising, renovations and repairs. He also helped develop the El Sistema program which brings musical instruction and instruments to children who would otherwise not have the means to do so.
Through it all, Tom was a lover of traditional folk music and dance. He and his wife Anne were beautiful singing and dancing partners. Those of you remember when the Morris Dancing team romped through the Home County Festival raising donations would have seen Tom and Anne in full regalia taking part!
We at Home County will remember Tom Siess with enduring affection and gratitude. Our deepest condolences go out to his wife Anne and their family.
