History of Home County Music Festival in London Ontario

The Home County Music and Art Festival has been a cornerstone of London Ontario’s cultural scene since 1974. Held every July in Victoria Park downtown London, the festival began as a celebration of folk music, local craftsmanship, and community connection. Over the decades, it has grown into one of the most popular free summer music festivals in Ontario.

Home County is known for its commitment to local artists, original artisans, and an inclusive, family-friendly atmosphere. It remains the longest running music and art festival in London Ontario, attracting thousands each year.

What HOME Stands for in Home County Music Festival

The name H.O.M.E. was chosen in 1974 by the festival’s founders to reflect the surrounding counties:

  • Huron

  • Oxford

  • Middlesex

  • Elgin

These four counties form the broader region that the festival represents and serves. Today, Home County remains dedicated to connecting with these communities through both its flagship festival and its outreach programs and concerts in southwestern Ontario.

Evolution of Home County Folk Festival to Music and Art Festival

In 2012, the festival officially changed its name from Home County Folk Festival to Home County Music and Art Festival. This rebranding reflected a broader approach to music programming and a stronger focus on original craft vendors and visual artists. While the festival continues to emphasize roots and folk music, it now features a wider range of musical expression and artistic experiences to appeal to changing diverse audiences.
